Katya was born in Kaliningrad (Soviet Russia) in 1983 but has lived in the U.K. since 2007. She has Aspergers Syndrome In 2010 she received a Doctorate in Natural Sciences and went on to work as a researcher at Hull University. A serious motorcycle accident in 2011 prevented Katya from pursuing her academic career As a result of the accident Katya suffers with severe sight loss (Hemianopia) and P.T.S.D. (Post traumatic stress disorder) Hemianopia is a condition in which a person sees only one side of their visual world. This is due to a brain malfunction rather than a disorder of the eyes themselves. Katya suffers with left hemianopia meaning she can only see the right side of the world. After a long period of recovery in few rehabilitation centres she began on her self taught art journey In 2018 Katya started painting her visual impairments for therapeutic purposes with a view to showing carers and health workers how sight loss alters behaviour.ещёсвернуть
